Hanshi Charles Wilson’s Legacy
Charles Wilson began studying martial arts in the late 1950’s as a family tradition, under Sensei (official teacher) William W. Wilson. In 1964 Charles Wilson became the youngest student at the original US GOSHI-SHUN Karate Dojo and began to focus his martial arts studies on the various martial arts within the GOSHI-SHUN System. He was the last student to receive his black belt and training certification from Master William Wilson at this dojo. He received his Shodan (1st Degree Black Belt) in 1968. In 2018 Hanshi Wilson earned and attained the rank of Ninth Dan, which is a very rare rank and considered a Very High Level Master, and Grand Master in Karate. He has also earned and is only person who has been bestowed the Shogo Title of Hanshi in the GOSHI-SHUN Karate System, by Grand Master William Wilson. Hanshi Charles Wilson is currently the highest ranking member of our GOSHI-SHUN Karate Family. and is one of the highest ranked karate practitioners in the world. The only other person to receive the rank of 9th Dan from Grand Master William Wilson was Robert “Bob” Ibn Minton who passed on March 25, 2014.
His martial arts training enabled him to become a national and international martial arts champion at a young age. He focused on training other martial artists and security experts; some of whom have started their own executive security firms, served as security experts for the military as well as private security agencies and police forces, and some whom have established their own martial arts schools. He has shared his martial arts knowledge with thousands of students in many communities, elementary schools, community centers martial arts dojo’s (traditional schools) in NJ, PA, MD, Washington, D.C., VA, and GA. This has had a positive influence on the lives of countless people turning many from a street oriented and gang life to become productive members of society. Some of my students have become military officers, ministers, business leaders, doctors, scholars, and renowned martial artists.
Hanshi Wilson has to his credit, 4 inductions to the Martial Arts Halls of Fame: 2000 Inducted into the Martial Arts Union Hall of Fame, 2001 Martial Arts Union Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award, 2003 Martial Arts Union Hall of Fame Recognition Award, 2007 Martial Arts Lifetime Achievement Award from Promoters Plus and a Golden Lifetime Achiever’s Award from the World Karate Union. Hanshi Wilson has an extensive tournament competition history including 1st place Pan-American Tournament in fighting. Hanshi Wilson directs a national martial arts demonstration team and has personally trained and developed thousands of karate students in his career.as well as trained and developed many other current karate Masters, Sensei, and Black Belts. Hanshi Wilson represents a complete martial arts package specializing in the traditions of bushido, samurai training, warrior training, combative fighting skills, physical fitness training, self-defense training, traditional katas, advanced martial arts training, and weapons training. Hanshi Wilson is also a highly sought after professional Head Judge for martial arts tournaments. His focus has been on realistic applications of fighting and self-defense techniques. Hanshi Wilson is famous for conducting power classes which are designed to train students to exceed their own physical limits.
Kyoshi Martin Jenkin’s Legacy
Martin Jenkins began studying martial arts in 1971 under Sensei (official teacher) Charles Wilson. He subsequently began his continuous committed study of the martial arts of GOSHI-SHUN Karate and Tae Kwon Do under two GOSHI-SHUN Sensei’s Robert “Bob” Minton and Charles Wilson in 1974 at the Goshi-Shun Karate Dojo on Merchant Street in Newark, New Jersey. He subsequently relocated from New Jersey to Washington, D.C. in 1977 to study chemistry at Howard University. During this time, he kept his affiliation with GOSHI-SHUN in N.J. and continued training and competing in martial arts. He briefly studied Tae Kwon Do under Grand Master Dr. Donj Ja Yang while at Howard University but remained a steadfast student of GOSHI-SHUN.
In 1990 he relocated to the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. He resumed graduate studies in chemistry at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He was granted permission to study Aikido while in Illinois. He joined the Aiki Shoshikai, under the tutelage of Sensei Jerry Smith (Principal Instructor), Sensei Richard Worth and Sensei Mike Sinnott. This was a great experience. He still maintains his ties and communication with the Aiki Shoshinkai.
In 1999 he relocated to Baltimore County, Maryland. He began Samurai Training under the tutelage of Grand Master William Wilson after this relocation. In 2003 he petitioned Grand Master William Wilson, and Grand Master Charles Wilson to open a GOSHI-SHUN Karate Dojo and Martial Arts Training Center in Maryland. He was granted a charter to establish the Shinki-Shobenjukai Martial Arts Academy in 2004. Sensei Martin Jenkins is currently the Principal Instructor of the Shinki-Shobenjukai Martial Arts Academy, and the Tenchido-Shobenjukai Martial Arts Academy within the GOSHI-SHUN Karate System. Sensei Martin, as he prefers to be called, is a highly recognized karate tournament judge, advanced seminar conductor, competitor, teacher, leader, and a member of the Charles Wilson Karate Demonstration Team. He serves as a ranking counsel member of the Kiaki Martial Arts Brotherhood, and was appointed Minister of Information, by Grand Master William Wilson. He has also been inducted into the ancient order of the Ni-Ying-Ti martial arts society.
The first student to receive his Black Belt at the Shinki-Shobenjukai Martial Arts Academy was sensei Willie Fields, who had also achieved a separate yudanshu (black belt rank) under Grand Master Dr. Bruce Marshall of the Kemite Martial Arts System. The other GOSHI-SHUN Karate Yudansha students from Sensei Martin include Dr. Fuad Muganlinsky, Keith Moore (RIP), Charles Anthony Reed (RIP), Rachel Ellen Jenkins (RIP), Kennedy Jenkins, and Dr. Gary Harrington.
Martin Jenkins has also earned and is only person who has been bestowed the Shogo Title of Kyoshi in the GOSHI-SHUN Karate System, by Grand Master William Wilson. Kyoshi Martin Jenkins has subsequently attained the rank of Eight Dan, which is a Very High Level Master, from Grand Master Charles Wilson. Kyoshi Martin Jenkins is the Founder and Principal Instructor of the Shinki-Shobenjukai Martial Arts Academy, and the Tenchido-Shobenjukai Martial Arts Academy within the GOSHI-SHUN Karate System.
