GOSHI-SHUN Karate

The Art and Science of GOSHI-SHUN Karate

GOSHI-SHUN Karate is a traditional form of the Japanese Martial Art known as Karate.

The official trademarked symbol of GOSHI-SHUN Karate is a filled red circle which circumscribes a black hand. This particular traditional style of karate has it’s origin in Japan. The lineage of the art and science of GOSHI-SHUN are to the martial arts of Goju-Ryu, Goju-Kai, Go-Shin Ju, Go-Shin Ryu, and Go-Shinku. These martial arts all have roots in Japan, Okinawa, China, the Himalayas, India, Egypt, and Africa. In the latter parts of the 20th Century GOSHI-SHUN Karate was also influenced by the arts of Isshinryu and Ketsugo.

The Art and Science of GOSHI-SHUN Karate was introduced to the United States of America in 1952 by then Master William Wilson. He began studying martial arts while in the Gifu Prefecture region of Japan, during the post WW II, US Military occupation. He achieved the rank of Fifth Dan before he opened a martial arts dojo (place of training) in the United States of America. He founded the first publicly open martial arts academy in the State of New Jersey in 1957. The location of the Garden State Ketsugo Fighting Team was on 7th Ave. in Newark, NJ. He ultimately advanced to the Tenth Dan, which is the highest rank attainable. He also received legitimate worldwide recognition as a Grand Master of the Martial Arts. He was the recipient of numerous civic recognitions such as “The Key to the City of Newark, NJ” where he opened his first Dojo; and a street named after him posthumously in East Orange, NJ where he had maintained our Hombu Dojo until it’s closing in January 2020. Grand Master William Wilson, also known to many as Nasser Abdul Haffiz (Arabic), to others as Rama Niron Mushab (Indian) passed on October 25, 2020.

The original US GOSHI-SHUN Karate Dojo also taught other martial arts such as Jujutsu, and the infamous art of Ketsugo Karate, until the art of Ketsugo was banned in the US the early 1960s. The Art and Science of GOSHI-SHUN in its true and proper proportion also teaches many aspects of physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual conditioning for the human being. In 1964 Charles Wilson became the youngest student at the original US GOSHI-SHUN Karate Dojo and began to study the martial arts of GOSHI-SHUN. He was the last student to receive his black belt and training certification from Master William Wilson at this dojo. He has since earned and attained the rank of Ninth Dan, which is a very rare rank and considered a Very High Level Master, and Grand Master in Karate. He has also earned and is only person who has been bestowed the Shogo Title of Hanshi in the GOSHI-SHUN Karate System, by Grand Master William Wilson. Hanshi Charles Wilson is currently the highest ranking member of our GOSHI-SHUN Karate Family. The only other person to receive the rank of 9th Dan from Grand Master William Wilson was Robert “Bob” Ibn Minton who passed on March 25, 2014.
